In traditional shamanism, bells are used for many purposes, because they can serve as houses for spirits and their sound represents the voice of those spirits.

A very specific kind of bells, that can often be found on the ritual clothing, attributes, amulets and eerens of the traditional shaman, are tigerbells.

Tigerbells can nowadays be found all over Asia, but have their origin in ancient China. They can vary in shape, size and design, but always have a recognizable decoration of a face on them; eyes, nose and mouth.

Their name ‘tigerbell’ derives from the Chinese symbol that most of the bells carry on the forehead or between the eyes; the character Wang. This character is also very often found on the forehead of Chinese tiger-representations. Its meaning is something like ‘prince’ or ’royal’. Furthermore also the protective qualities of tigerbells can be traced along these lines: in Chinese language, the word for ‘tiger’ and ‘protection’ have a phonetic similarity, which gave root to the association of this animal with the qualities of protection.

At SeaWolf Shop we are very proud to be able to offer you a selection of different shapes and sizes of tigerbells. Our tigerbells are all made of good quality brass and can be used for all your personal ritual and/or handcrafting purposes, giving your personal spirits a house and a voice and bestowing you with their protection.

These tigerbells are 11 millimeters in size (measured without the eyelet) and come to us via our friends at Shaman Bazar. They are sold per piece.
